This Southern region of France, on the lovely Rhone River, is known for producing more grape varieties than any other in that famed and storied country. A dozen renowned, and at least as many more obscure, grape varieties hail from this sun-kissed appellation. Syrah, Grenache, Mouvedre, Viognier, and many more are fairly well-known around the world—and for good reason. The complexity and power of these grapes have made them some of the most sought-after bottles in various regions the world over.
