Presented by our resident Sommelier Trevor
The much loved Tempranillo, the lusty but balanced red grape most associated with this nation, is widespread here—but so are other less known but equally exciting varieties. Both red and white, these wines represent a continuity of winemaking that is perhaps not quite like any other place in Europe. The reason, in short, is traditional wine making techniques that are best preserved here than any other country. These bottlings can be rustic, sometimes earthy, rich and abundant in character, with very often tantalizing oak and consequent vanilla notes. They are both drinkable in youth, but possess longevity that many other bold reds do not. This may be the most overlooked wine producing nation on the continent, in terms of how much fame these bottlings should have but sometimes do not. Come and find out why at this remarkable wine tasting and class.
